News Between Newsletters - April

Here is a letter to the editor that appeared in the Wilmington Town Crier and Wilmington Advocate on Thursday, April 2.

Dear Editor,

The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library raised over $17,500 during its recent Annual Appeal. These funds will help complete the library’s makeover with new customized signage, display shelving, and other features that will make it easier for users to find what they need.

The Friends would like to thank the more than 150 residents who donated. Each donor’s name can be found on a placard in the library’s first-floor hallway.

The Friends would also like to thank the dozen local businesses who made financial contributions: Aluminum & Glass Concepts; ChemGenes Corporation; Country Chef; Electrical Design & Control; J.A. Miara Transportation; John Sullivan, MD; Nichols Funeral Home; Optocom Corporation; Pacific Packaging Products; Patriot Flooring; Scully Signal Company; and Vaidya Consultants.

The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library are fortunate to be based in this town. Primarily through Annual Appeal donations, Book Store Next Door proceeds, and membership dues, the Friends raised more than $75,000 over the past two years. Since 2007, the Friends have been able to fund a 24/7 drive-up book & media return; circulation desk for the children’s department; tables and chairs for the preschool area; couch in the children’s room; computer workstations in the Teen Zone; upholstered chairs in the adult reading area; book display units for the popular “hot titles” service; the Wilmington Memorial Library outdoor sign; a handful of museum and zoo passes; and over 100 programs for children, teens, and adults (including Wilmington Reads and Summer Reading Programs).

The Friends are proud of its library. The Friends are proud of its town. Thank you for your continuous generosity, particularly in these tumultuous economic times.

Sincerely,

Robert Hayes
Fundraising Chair, Friends of the WML
